Should I do a food tasting before booking a caterer?
Absolutely. A tasting lets you evaluate food quality, presentation, portion sizes, and service style. Most reputable caterers offer a complimentary tasting for confirmed bookings or a paid tasting that’s credited to the final bill.
Can I use an external caterer at my reception hall?
Some halls allow it while others require in-house catering. When external catering is allowed, expect a kitchen usage fee or corkage charge. Verify this policy early in your venue search.
How much staff does a caterer need for my event?
A standard ratio is 1 server per 10–15 guests for plated service, or 1 per 20–25 for buffet. For premium service, request a higher ratio. Confirm the number of bartenders, kitchen staff, and a floor manager.
How do I compare catering proposals effectively?
Compare price per head (including VAT), menu variety, service style, staff count, included extras (cake, cocktail hour), and reviews from past clients. Don’t just choose the cheapest—quality matters.
Can caterers accommodate a mixed kosher/non-kosher event?
In Israel, this is uncommon but some caterers offer ‘kosher-style’ menus. If you need both, consider separate serving areas with clear labeling. Discuss this openly with the caterer to find a solution.
